Let's not Forget about Christmas Poems

Christmas is the time of year that brings out the best in people, that makes us all feel warn and thoughtful, make families stick tighter and triggers the most wonderful emotions even inside a frozen soul. All this rhapsody of emotions has been captured over the decades by numerous writers, both in epic and poetic literature. Mostly every Christmas moment has been immortalized in touching Christmas poems: the coming of Santa, Jesus' birth, Magi's gifts, snow glitters, bells jingling and so on. The ageless Christmas poems also paint more contemporary moments akin to the Christmas dinner, the unwrapping of gift ect.

A Poem Inspired by St. Nicholas

Clement Mark Moore wrote back in 1882 one of the most magnificent Christmas poems ever. The poem entitled 'A Visit from St. Nicholas' has been kept dearly in many souls, and it because famous, leaving a legendary verse to watch over the decades. Everyone knows the verse, even if they don't know the entire poem: 'Twas the night before Christmas'

The poem talks about Santa Claus' visit to a home on a day long past. Written ingeniously, it covers the entire visit, from Santa's coming to his going. Everything from filling up stockings to Santa's calling to his reindeer is included in this poem.

From all Christmas poems ever written, we will have to agree that this poem is the one that better describes Santa's visit. Very specific, the author gives us loads of details, from Santa's arrival till he moves on to another house.

A Noisy Poem

Written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the poem Christmas Bells is centered on the sound made by church bells ringing on Christmas day. Back in 1864 this was a most appreciated event in every community. The author tries to associate the bells to a couple of free, peaceful beings that express the purest emotions during this time of the year. Like all Christmas poems, this ageless story thrives of bliss and it's filled with seasonal thoughts.

Christmas in the Olden Time

'Christmas in the Olden Time' was outlined by Sir Walter Scott in 1808. This is a descriptive poem that paints the imagine of some Christmas customs and activities during a long gone era.

Describing Christmas ceremonies

One of the oldest Christmas poem that is still remembered today is Robert Herrick's masterpiece called 'Ceremonies for Christmas'. Herrick wrote an entire ode dedicated to Christmas food. The goes on and on about meat, pie, bear, vine. It's a rather enjoyable Christmas poem and it survived over the years because it's the only one that puts such a profound accent on Christmas food and drinks.
