Origin of the Christmas Tree

Christmas time is a period when we celebrate the religious signification of Christmas while making use of the more modern traditions in order to make each and every Christmas unique and special. The name come from the connotation of its original name "Christes Masse"(Mass of Christ in plain English). Religion initially debated the fact that Christ has been ascended to divinity on the every day of his birth, but finally they concluded the argument, deciding that December the 25th shall be the day when we celebrate Christmas.

Nowadays, one of the most important Christmas aspects it's our Christmas tree. No one can imagine Christmas without a tree, small or big. The tradition of setting and decorating the Christmas tree on December the 24th has been around for many generations and it's one of the most pleasurable moments of Christmas time.

Where in History is the origin of the Christmas Tree

The origin of the Christmas tree dates way back, even before Christians. The Christmas tree is supposed to have been invented on European land by various pagan cultures. Ever since the origin of the Christmas tree, people all over the world and from all cultural backgrounds have worshiped it as a symbol of sacrifice, welfare or joy.

The long gone Viking tribes described the green tree as mood booster during the harsh winter season. It reminded them of spring, and proved that the cold and darkness that winter brought won't last forever, therefore all bad things in life will eventually end.

When doing a proper research on the origin of the Christmas tree, we will find a large number of folklore stories and religious legends that surround its tradition. One English legend talks about a monk, called Boniface. He is supposed to have met in one of his journeys a group of pagan worshipers that were just about to perfume a sacrifice. Their ritual was located beneath an oak tree and the sacrifice they were about to make was a small child. Saint Boniface is said to have hit the tree once, and it was crushed to the ground.

Immediately after the incident a new tree began to rise where the oak tree used to be, and Boniface explained to the pagan group that the new tree is called The Tree of life.

We can also come across many other versions about the origin of the Christmas tree, and there is no point in arguing with someone about the correct one, because no one decided on one version in particular and there are still many groups of people that have strong and different beliefs regarding the matter.
