Tips And Tricks For Bed Wetting
Left unresolved, the problems of five year old children bed wetting can lead to such problems as low self esteem and the fear of otherwise normal childhood activities such as sleep overs or any other social situation where the child will sleep away from their own bed, such as school camps. Unfortunately, bed wetting is not an easy problem to solve, and requires a great deal of patience and time from both the child and the parent to avoid a long lasting problem.
Normal development and general good health should be assured by a doctor before trying to tackle the problem of bed wetting. Most bed wetting is a perfectly normal part of growing up, but there can sometimes be underlying medical causes or developmental issues that should be ruled out first and only a doctor can do this.
One tool that can help with a bed wetting child is the bed wetting alarm. This is used to wake a child up during the night, and get the child into the habit of waking at night to use the bathroom. Being to deeply asleep to wake up is only one of the causes of bed wetting but the sleep alarm will help to develop a pattern of waking to urinate during the night.
You should also be aware that the bed wetting problem has little to do with your own parenting skills.
Another thing to check for children with this problem is that they are not consuming too many liquids late at night, especially before bed time.
Diuretic drinks such as colas should also be avoided by children experiencing bed wetting problems.
Waking in the middle of the night and retention control should be encouraged through positive reenforcement from the parents. Negative responses such as anger and impatience will only serve to increase the five year old child's stress levels and lower their self-esteem, neither of which is helpful to solve the underlying problem. The child should not be made to feel shamed of these episodes, they should only be encouraged to break the habit.
Medicating the child or changing their diet to help with bed wetting should not be done without direct approval of the child's doctor. Doing either of these things can increase the child's stress level and might have an adhere affect on the child's bed wetting problem.
