Buying Specialist Greyhound Food
Greyhounds are unlike other dogs in that they have very specific and unique nutritional needs. Many experts now recognise that a poor quality dog food packed with preservatives and additives can have a negative effect on your dogs behaviour.Greyhounds can be particularly affected by chemicals contained within their food, but this can go undetected by their owners.
A specialist Greyhound Food should be the only type of food you give to your required or rescued greyhound.Greyhounds don’t tend to suffer from excessive weight gain, so if you are providing a good quality greyhound food product you don’t need to be overly concerned about portion sizes.
If you want to make sure your greyhound has a glossy coat, bright eyes and healthy skin then look to buy a food product which contains quality fish oils.If you think your dog’s food is lacking in oil you could try adding a spoonful of cod liver oil once per day to a bowl of food, or you can introduce fish into the diet as a snack. As with all pet food, if you feed a dry food product you need to also provide a dish of fresh water.
As dogs in the wild would have been forced to catch their food their bodies are good at digesting raw meat. You should avoid feeding raw pork or poultry as these meats can contain bacteria. Please also remember dogs are omnivores and not carnivores. Feeding meat alone will cause malnutrition as will feeding vegetables and cereals alone.
Ideally, stick to a quality, specialist pet food as this will contain all the meat your greyhound requires.
